KMC-NCATS: Illuminating the Druggable Genome Knowledge Management Center (IDG KMC), User Interface Portal (UIP)

  • Rajarshi Guha, Ph.D.
    Research Scientist, Informatics
Division of Pre-Clinical Innovation National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences National Institutes of Health

Overview

As a partner with the KMC, NCATS developing and implementing PHAROS as the User Interface Portal to access all the integrated data, metadata and annotation collected via Data Organization Cores at UNM and ISMMS. This work is led by Dr. Anton Simeonov and Dr. Rajarshi Guha.

Biography

Anton Simeonov is the scientific director at NCATS. The author or inventor on more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications and patents, Simeonov has a truly diverse background, ranging from bioorganic chemistry and molecular biology to clinical diagnostic research and development. He received a Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry from the University of Southern California and a B.A. in chemistry from Concordia College. Simeonov then trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Scripps Research Institute under Richard Lerner, M.D., and Kim Janda, Ph.D.

Prior to joining NIH in November 2004, Simeonov was a senior scientist at Caliper Life Sciences, a leading developer of microfluidic technologies, where he was responsible for basic research on novel assay methodologies and development of microfluidic products for research and clinical diagnostics. Simeonov is a literature editor of Assay and Drug Development Technologies and a member of the editorial board of Expert Opinion on Drug Discoveryand Drug Target Review.

Biography

Rajarshi Guha is an informatics research scientist in the Division of Pre-Clinical Innovation at NCATS. He provides informatics support and development for multiple research platforms, including small-molecule, RNA interference and combination screening. In addition to individual project support, he is involved in software and algorithm development in the areas of cheminformatics methods and chemical biology databases, including the BioAssay Research Database (link is external). Before joining NIH, Guha was a visiting assistant professor in the School of Informatics at Indiana University, where he currently holds an adjunct professorship. An active member of the cheminformatics community, he has made contributions to various open-source projects and has held multiple leadership roles in the American Chemical Society’s Division of Chemical Information. Guha earned his Ph.D. in computational chemistry at Pennsylvania State University and held postdoctoral research positions at Penn State and Indiana University
